Preparing for the May 2026 Examinations

The May 2026 ATT examinations will be held via a new examinations platform, TestReach.

Detailed information is provided on this page. Please keep a check on the general Exam Noticeboard for any further updates.

Important: We recommend that you download our overview guide to help you get started.

ATT exams 2026 – access to resources during the examinations

We have set out below the materials and resources that will be available to you during the May 2026 examination session:

Resource Notes
Online access to HMRC manuals Access will be provided via the exam platform, allowing you to access the relevant area of GOV.UK.
Online access to tax legislation

You will not be able to bring in any hard copies of legislation.

You have a choice of two online products from the approved providers to purchase Online Tax legislation for the exams - Croner-i and Tolley's Digital Library.  These are products produced for student usage and may well be different to the subscriptions your firm provides you with at work. Click on the links below to purchase the Online legislation (providers listed alphabetically):

You will not be able to make notes in either product, but you will be able to use highlighting and other useful features that come with your Online legislation.

You must bring your login details with you to the exam.

Access to unannotated PDF copies of Tolley study material for the relevant exam This will be provided to all candidates on-screen, within the TestReach application, during the exam. This includes the relevant study manuals and the corresponding memory jogger.
Tax tables These will be uploaded to the exam platform, and available on-screen in PDF format during the exam.
A5 notebook

You will be able to take an A5 notebook into the exam. This may be either a bound (which includes spiral/wire-bound) notebook or a loose-leaf A5 ring-binder. In the case of a ring-binder, you must not remove pages during the examination, as this would breach the clear-desk policy in place from May 2026 onwards.

The notebook can contain pre-printed, typed or handwritten notes. You will not be allowed a pen or paper during the exam.

Please note: The A5 notebook is only available for the May 2026 examinations, and this will be withdrawn from November 2026 onwards.

Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments

The deadline for Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustment applications is six weeks before the relevant exam.

While late applications may be considered, we cannot guarantee to grant accommodations where applications are received after the deadline.

Where you have pre-existing reasonable adjustments agreed with the ATT and require the allowed A5 notebook (May 2026 examination session only) to be increased in size to A4 as an additional reasonable adjustment, this must be requested separately and no later than six weeks prior to the date of the examination.

Remote proctoring and TestReach candidate guidance

The new examination platform will be live proctored (i.e. you will be monitored – invigilated – throughout the examination by a person via your web camera) and the exams will be conducted through a secure browser. You will also be able to contact the proctor during your exam if you need to, via a chat function or by speaking to them.

As well as your webcam, you will need a second camera (for example, your mobile phone or a tablet) which will be set up to monitor your desk area. You will need to scan an on-screen QR code to pair the second camera device to the TestReach application.

When you receive your candidate enrolment email from TestReach, you must use your access code to log in to the TestReach application, carry out a system check and book your staggered start timeslot. This will confirm your exact start time. Important: you must do this 72hours before your exam, otherwise you may not be able to sit the exam. Please check your email spam and junk folders. The TestReach email will come from [email protected] – please add this to your safe senders list.

For more information to prepare yourself for using TestReach, including the system checks required and guidance on basic functionality, please download and read the TestReach Remote Proctoring guide.

Further details of the identification checking process and environment scan carried out by the proctor are available on our FAQ page.

Staggered starts: action required

Due to the live proctoring process and to ensure that all candidates are moved promptly into their examination, the ATT examinations will have staggered starts from 10:00 or 14:30 (unless you have reasonable adjustments, in which case your examination start time may be earlier).

You will need to login to the TestReach application, using your access code (sent to you by email) to book your actual start time at least 72 hours before the examination.

Downloading the TestReach application

For ATT examinations, you will need to have downloaded the TestReach application onto the device you intend to use when sitting the examination.  You can download the application from the TestReach website.

Full technical specifications are included in the TestReach download guide

We recommend that all candidates test their ability to download the application well in advance of the exam, but this is particularly important if you are using a corporate device provided by your employer. Your employer’s IT department might need to assist you in checking and amending settings to allow you to download the application. Please share the guidance with them as necessary.

Support with trouble-shooting any technical issues encountered when downloading the application will be given directly via TestReach’s customer services:

Practising using the TestReach application

Prior to the examination, you will need to familiarise yourself with how the TestReach application works.

To assist with this, you can work through TestReach’s online Test Tutorial.

Note that this tutorial opens in your browser. Accessing it does not mean that you have successfully downloaded the TestReach application – you still need to follow the instructions above to do that.

When the Test Tutorial opens, it says the time allowed is 30 minutes. It may not take you that long to complete it, but if you take more than 30 minutes, it will time out and you will need to start again. You may work through this tutorial as many times as you wish.

Please note: this Test Tutorial provides you the opportunity to understand the general functionality of the software. It is not an exact representation of how the ATT exams will be delivered on the platform. The ATT assessment will include access to an Excel spreadsheet, table usage and the resources outlined above.

You can familiarise yourself with this via the ATT Practice Test.

Now available: ATT Practice Test

When you have downloaded the TestReach application, from the login screen, select the ‘Use Access Code’ option (beneath the ‘Sign in’ button).

On the next screen, enter the following Access Code: ZYbhfeBnLwwP

This will take you to an ATT Practice Test that you can go through as many times as you wish.
