Issues with HMRC systems and processes: let the Technical Team know

11 February, 2026

Feedback from members is crucial to much of the ATT's work, particularly concerning issues encountered whilst interacting with HMRC's systems, services and processes.

We have close links with HMRC via more than 30 working groups covering a number of areas of tax and HMRC services. Whilst these groups provide inroads to raise issues encountered by members, we first need to:

and

  • obtain real-life examples of systemic issues, to help HMRC them to identify and seek to resolve them.

To facilitate this, the ATT has launched a new facility for members to raise issues with HMRC systems and processes to the ATT’s technical team.

The objective is to:

  • Allow members to submit evidence of issues with HMRC systems and processes to our technical officers.
  • Facilitate gathering input and evidence from the wider ATT membership as to whether they too have experienced an issue.
  • Enable our technical team to identify potentially systemic issues.
  • Provide evidence to HMRC of real-life instances of issues with their systems (evidence should be anonymised save for a tax reference number such as UTR or NI number)
  • Simplify work with HMRC to share solutions with our members and the wider tax profession, or recommendations on how to manage that issue.

What we need from members

To support the new process, we need members to tell us about problems encountered with HMRC systems which may be more than a ‘one-off’ or client-specific issue.

Members can find out what issues we’ve been made aware of via our Issues with HMRC systems and processes webpage, and submit their own evidence, either that they’re experiencing one of those known issues, or of a new but potentially systemic problem.

Our technical team will share issues reported to us, via the ATT's LinkedIn account and the weekly members’ email updates, so please keep an eye out for issues where evidence is needed before we can raise a problem with HMRC.
