Celebrating our Trustees during Trustees’ Week 2025

3 November, 2025

This Trustees’ Week, we’re proud to shine a light on the vital contribution of all our volunteers — including our Council members, who serve as trustees.

Trustees’ Week (3 – 7 November 2025) is an annual opportunity to recognise and celebrate the one million trustees who volunteer their time and expertise to charities across the UK.

Who are the ATT’s trustees?

The ATT is both a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. As such, members of Council serve as both Company Directors and Charity Trustees.

Our Council is currently made up of 18 elected members - all are ATT members or Fellows. These individuals are volunteers who generously give their time and experience to ensure the ATT is run effectively, and in line with our charitable aims. You can view a list of our current Council Members and learn more about their backgrounds on our Council webpage.

As trustees, they are responsible for:

  • Setting the strategic direction of the ATT

  • Ensuring good governance and compliance

  • Overseeing performance and risk management

  • Management of the charity’s assets

Council meets four times a year, either virtually or at the ATT’s head office in London. In addition to their trustee responsibilities, Council members also serve on at least one Steering Group, helping to shape the ATT’s work in specific areas such as education, examination, equality diversity and inclusion, technical work, audit and risk, member services, and professional standards.

In their own words

To mark Trustees’ Week, we asked some of our Council Members and volunteers to share their personal reflections:

“As a volunteer on ATT Council I have enjoyed being in a position to have some influence, however small, on the future of our profession, whilst also improving my leadership skills as a result of chairing a number of committees and meetings. One highlight has been being able to visit a number of Branches during my year as President to see first hand the wonderful work that my fellow volunteers do.”

–  Simon Groom, ATT Council Member

“As a trustee, you contribute your unique skills, passion, and perspective to help guide the organisation's direction. Serving as a trustee is both challenging and rewarding. It offers a meaningful balance of making a positive impact and fostering personal growth.”

– Mehran Iqbal, ATT Council Member

“I’ve really enjoyed being a volunteer because of the additional skills I’ve been able to pick up, but also the opportunity to meet so many new people (who are now friends!) that I would otherwise probably not have had the pleasure to meet. It’s also given me the confidence to get involved in ATT leadership by going through the route to President, which is a great way to broaden my skillset and work more closely with the charity.”
– ATT Council Member

We are immensely grateful to all volunteers and current, and former, members of Council for their dedication and service.
