School Leaver

Do you currently have a finance related qualification or are you currently in employment/applying for work?

If you are applying for work, we suggest that you consider a ATT Foundation Qualification that could help you build on your tax knowledge and be a positive on your CV for any prospective employer.

If you have a finance qualification or are in employment/applying for work, we suggest you talk to your (prospective) employer about the ATT Qualification or Level 4 ATT Apprenticeship.

No I do not - We suggest you identify a prospective employer that would support the ATT Qualification or Level 4 ATT Apprenticeship.

Graduate

Do you currently have a finance related degree, or similar?

Yes - We suggest that you talk to your (prospective) employer about the ATT CTA Tax Pathway.

No - If you are in employment/applying for work, we suggest that you talk to your (prospective) employer about the ATT Qualification or Level 4 ATT Apprenticeship.

Do you wish to progress within a tax career to become a specialist Adviser?

Yes - We suggest that you talk to your (prospective) employer about the ATT CTA Tax Pathway.

No - We suggest that you talk to your (prospective) employer about the ATT Qualification.

Employer

Are you looking to train staff or employ a new member of staff for a tax role?

If so, where are you based? 

England - We suggest looking at the ATT Qualification or Level 4 ATT Apprenticeship.

Wales or Northern Ireland - We suggest our ATT Foundation Qualifications which will bring staff to a capable level of understanding in areas of Personal Tax, Business Tax and VAT.

Scotland - We suggest our ATT Foundation Qualifications which will bring staff to a capable level of understanding in areas of Personal Tax, Business Tax and VAT.  You may also wish to consider the options for an Apprenticeship through the National Occupational Standards model as part of the devolved education and training policy.

Are you looking to train a junior member of staff with no current tax knowledge or someone with basic tax understanding/knowledge in accounting? 

If so, we suggest our ATT Foundation Qualifications which will bring staff to a capable level of understanding in areas of Personal Tax, Business Tax and VAT.

Are you looking to train a member of staff with good tax knowledge and experience who wishes to gain a qualification?

Yes - You may wish to consider the ATT CTA Tax Pathway which enables students to gain the two most prestigious tax qualifications. 

How much experience does your member of staff have?

Less than 2 years - We suggest our ATT Foundation Qualifications so that they can build up knowledge and experience before moving into the ATT Qualification.

2 - 5 years - We suggest that you consider enrolling this member of staff for the ATT Qualification.

5 years or over - If they are currently studying the ACA with the ICEAW, we suggest considering the ACA CTA Joint Programme that enables students who want to specialise in tax to achieve two prestigious qualifications. 

Does your firm pay the Apprenticeship Levy?

Yes - We suggest that you consider enrolling this member of staff for the Level 4 ATT Apprenticeship.

No - We suggest that you consider enrolling this member of staff for the Level 4 ATT Apprenticeship. Whilst you do not pay the Apprenticeship Levy you can qualify for 90% of the training (up to the funding band maximum - currently £8,000) to be paid for by the Government.

Accountant

Do you already have a related qualification (including ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS, AIA, CIMA)?

Yes - If you are studying with the ICEAW, you may wish you to consider the ACA CTA Joint programme that enables students who want to specialise in tax to achieve two prestigious qualifications 

No - We suggest the ATT Foundation Qualifications. As you work through the Foundation Level Qualifications and build your experience you may, after two years, look to then study for the full ATT qualification.  

Do you have any tax experience without a formal qualification?

No - We suggest the ATT Foundation Qualifications. As you work through the Foundation Qualifications and build your experience you may, after two years, look to then study for the full ATT Qualification.  

Less than 2 years - We suggest the ATT Foundation Qualifications. As you work through the Foundation Qualifications and build your experience you may, after two years, look to then study for the full ATT Qualification.  

2-5 years experience - We suggest that you consider enrolling for the ATT Qualification

5 years plus - You may wish to consider the ACA CTA Joint programme that enables students who want to specialise in tax to achieve two prestigious qualifications.

Tax practitioner

Do you already have a related qualification? (including ATT)

Yes - You may wish to consider the ACA CTA Joint programme that enables students who want to specialise in tax to achieve two prestigious qualifications 

No - We suggest that you consider enrolling for the ATT Qualification.

How much experience do you have?

Less than 2 years - Although there is a requirement for 2 years of practical experience to become an ATT member, you are able to qualify through the papers then become a full member once you have completed the 2 years practical experience.

2-5 years - We suggest that you consider enrolling for the ATT Qualification. 

5 years plus - You may wish to consider the ACA CTA Joint programme that enables students who want to specialise in tax to achieve two prestigious qualifications 

Are you also currently studying the ACA with the ICAEW?

If so,  you may wish to consider the ACA CTA Joint programme that enables students who want to specialise in tax to achieve two prestigious qualifications 

Are you likely to work on the taxation of major corporates?

Yes - You may wish to consider the ACA CTA Joint programme that enables students who want to specialise in tax to achieve two prestigious qualifications.

No -  We would suggest the CTA Direct Qualification, provided you meet the qualifying criteria. 

Bookkeeper, solicitor or other related field

Are you a solicitor?

Yes - You may wish to consider the CTA Direct/Indirect Taxes Qualification, provided that you meet the qualifying criteria.  For a less intensive qualification you may wish to consider the ATT Qualification.

No - We suggest the ATT Foundation Qualifications. As you work through the Foundation Qualifications and build your experience you may, after two years, look to then study for the full ATT Qualification.  

Do you hold one of the following qualifications: LPC / BVC / BPTC?

Yes - You may wish to consider the CTA Direct/Indirect Taxes Qualification, provided that you meet the qualifying criteria.  For a less intensive qualification you may wish to consider the ATT Qualification.

No - We suggest the ATT Foundation Qualifications. As you work through the Foundation Qualifications and build your experience you may, after two years, look to then study for the full ATT Qualification.
