Award in R&D Tax Relief Essentials

The ATT have partnered with The R&D Community to offer a dedicated online qualification in R&D tax relief.

Designed for those working in tax who want to learn more about R&D relief, this concise, practically focused, qualification is delivered and assessed entirely online.

Working through the course at your own pace, you’ll obtain a clear overview of the R&D relief schemes, how they work, who can claim, and how they are administered by HMRC.

Total fees including registration and resources are £670 + VAT.

The award is pitched at an introductory level, and is ideal if you are not an R&D specialist but would like to understand more about the rules. It will enable you to have better informed conversations with your clients about R&D tax relief, as well as spot potential risks and opportunities.

No prior knowledge of R&D tax relief is required, but a decent grasp of the basic corporation tax rules will be assumed.

By completing the award you’ll learn about:

  • The basic concepts of R&D tax relief
  • How the merged and enhanced R&D intensive (ERIS) schemes work
  • The claims process
  • How to put your learning into practice
  • Key documentation and sources of guidance

The award is delivered and examined entirely online. Training is via a combination of short, digestible, videos and required reading, with multiple-choice quizzes to check your knowledge as you go.

You’ll also receive a 30 minute call with an R&D expert to discuss any questions you may have about the content and how to apply it in practice.

As content is available on-demand and can be worked through at your own pace, it can fit around any other commitments you may have.

The award does not provide any exemptions for the ATT examinations.

Yes, studying for the award does count towards your annual CPD.

Registration for the award will open soon.

In the meantime you can register your interest using our online form. We will then contact you directly once registration opens.

You will need to follow these steps to complete the award:

  1. You must first register with us and make a payment of £170. Registration lasts for three months. If your registration expires before you have completed your qualification you may register again and pay the fee.
  2. Once you have registered, you will receive an email confirming your registration and providing a link to register with The R&D Community and access the training materials and assessment. The cost of this is £500 (+VAT).
  3. You then study the content and complete assessments on-screen with The R&D Community.
  4. When you have completed all modules and passed the final assessment, this will be notified to us by The R&D Community. We will then automatically send you an award certificate.

Total Cost: £670 (excluding VAT)

Those residing outside the UK, its crown dependencies or the GCC are not permitted to register to take any of our qualifications. If any applications are submitted they will not be accepted and any fee paid will be refunded within 28 days.

Please note that the name on your certificate will be the name you entered upon registering in Step 1 above.  If you have entered your details incorrectly, the ATT reserves the right to charge an additional £100 if you request a replacement certificate (plus postage and packaging if the certificate needs to be sent to an address outside the United Kingdom).
