What’s coming up this week

9 March, 2026

Today marks the start of Tax Awareness Week 2026. This week is about starting conversations, improving public understanding of tax, and celebrating the value of qualified advisers.

What is Tax Awareness Week?

Tax Awareness Week is an educational initiative designed to:

  • Increase public understanding of why tax matters
  • Tackle common misconceptions
  • Signpost help and support
  • Showcase the breadth of careers in tax
  • Highlight the importance of using a qualified tax adviser

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing content across LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, and our website

What’s happening this week

Each day focuses on a different theme, giving you practical ways to take part.

Day 1 (Today) – Why you need to be tax aware

We’re kicking off with the fundamentals: why taxes matter, how they fund public services, and why being tax aware is important.

How you can get involved today:

  • Share our launch post on your social media channels
  • Share your own post - suggested wording and downloadable assets can be found in our Supporter Resources

Day 2 (Tuesday) – Debunking tax myths

We’ll tackle some of the most common tax myths and misconceptions.

How you can get involved:

Share a common tax myth you’ve encountered on your social media channels - suggested wording and downloadable assets can be found in our Supporter Resources.

Day 3 (Wednesday) – Understanding your taxes

We’ll highlight practical tools, guidance and support available to help taxpayers get things right.

How you can get involved:

Share trusted resources and signpost helpful tools or guidance, either by sharing our content or creating your own.

Day 4 (Thursday) – Volunteering and careers in tax

On Thursday, we’ll focus on inspiring the next generation and showcasing the opportunities within the profession - including how members can support outreach to schools, colleges and universities.

In celebration of Tax Awareness Week and International Women’s Day, the Chartered Institute of Taxation will be hosting Leaders in Tax: Give to Gain webinar. This inspiring session will explore leadership in the profession and the journeys into senior roles. Make sure you share this with your networks and reserve your place!

How you can get involved on Day 4:

  • Share how your own career in tax began on your social media channels.
  • Post about volunteering or mentoring experiences in Tax.
  • Encourage others to explore careers in tax

Suggested wording and downloadable assets can be found in our Supporter Resources

Day 5 – The benefits of using a qualified tax adviser

We’ll close the week by reinforcing the importance of professional standards and choosing a tax adviser.

How you can get involved:

Highlight the value you bring to clients and promote the benefits of seeking advice from a qualified tax adviser.

Resources to help you take part

We’ve developed Supporter Resources to make it easy to get involved. You can copy the suggested wording or use it as inspiration for your own posts.

Whether you share once or participate each day, your involvement helps amplify the message.
