Volunteering: Schools and Careers

12 March, 2026

Tax touches nearly every aspect of life, yet many students leave school with limited understanding of what it is or why it matters. Supporting young people to build financial literacy and tax awareness isn’t just helpful—it’s essential. Whether they become employees, entrepreneurs, or even future tax professionals, understanding tax equips them to make informed decisions throughout life.

How you can help
As a member of the tax profession, you have a unique opportunity to make tax accessible, engaging, and relatable. By volunteering in schools or at careers fairs, you can:

  • Explain how tax supports everyday services and infrastructure

  • Bust common myths and misconceptions

  • Showcase the diverse and rewarding career paths within the tax profession

Volunteering in schools, colleges and universities is a powerful way to give back, strengthen community ties, and demonstrate the profession’s commitment to education and social value. It’s a practical way for tax professionals to make a real difference beyond the workplace.

Resources from the ATT
The ATT has a full suite of resources to support volunteers, including:

  • PowerPoint presentations and ready-made lesson plans

  • Posters, brochures, and FAQs

  • Branded merchandise

  • A dedicated Volunteer in Schools Toolkit

  • Educational YouTube videos covering basic topics and unusual historical taxes

All of these materials are available on our Volunteering at Schools and Careers Fairs page.

We’ve also recorded a helpful webinar, Tax in Schools: How You Can Get Involved packed with practical advice for volunteers.
