Jane Ashton
CEO

Jane was appointed Chief Executive in March 2016. She became a member of the Association in 1993 and a Fellow in 2011. She is a former member of Council. Jane was previously with HMRC where over a thirty year period she held various posts, gaining considerable experience both in tax and change programmes.

Vicky Symons
Executive Officer

Vicky is secretary to the Association's Council along with various other committees, including: Finance Steering Group; Member and Business Development Steering Group; Audit and Risk Committee; and the Joint Officers and Senior Staff Forum.  Before joining ATT in 2023 Vicky spent 17 years at ICAEW in the UK Regions team. Initially as Executive for the Leicester & Northants network and later within the operations team as Programme Manager for the department.

Vicky Hilpert
Chief Financial Officer

Vicky is a Chartered Management Accountant and has a wealth of experience across a broad range of commercial, charitable, and professional body roles including most recently as Finance Director at charity POhWER and Chief Operating Officer at the Institute of Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH) alongside experience gained at FTSE 100s and SMEs.

Emma Rawson
Director of Public Policy

Emma was appointed Director of Public Policy in December 2024.  Prior to that, she served as an ATT Technical Officer for over seven years.  Her background is in business taxes.  She trained in the Big 4 and spent a short time working for a specialist consultancy firm before joining the ATT in 2017.  As Director of Public Policy, she has oversight of the Association’s tax technical and professional standards work. She is also a former Chair of the Leeds Branch of the ATT and CIOT.

James Stockdale
Director of Education

James has over thirty years’ experience in qualifications and assessment, much of this time in professional body education, having held senior leadership roles across awarding organisations, sector skills bodies and membership associations. Prior to joining ATT, he held Ofqual and SQA Responsible Officer accountability across several organisations, including as Global Director of Learning at the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment and the Director of Awarding and Policy at the Association of Business Executives. Earlier in his career James spent many years at OCR, part of the Cambridge Assessment Group, and led the development of National Occupational Standards and qualification frameworks at Skillsmart Retail and the Institute of the Motor Industry.

James is also active in board-level governance as Chair of OCN London, Vice-Chair of YMCA Awards, and Chair of the Educational and Learning Committee for the Chartered Governance Institute (UK). He joins ATT with a clear focus on ensuring that its qualifications remain rigorous, relevant, and fit for the modern world of work and taxation practices.

Helen Thornley
Technical Officer

Helen has a focus on personal and capital taxes. Initially qualifying as a Chartered Accountant before moving to tax, she worked in practice as a private client consultant in a mid-tier firm until her appointment as a technical officer in 2017. Helen also has an interest in the history of tax.

Steven Pinhey
Technical Officer

Steven's particular emphasis is on management of taxes and tax disputes and resolution. He was a partner in a City firm of Chartered Accountants and then founded his own specialist tax investigations and enquiries company before his appointment as a technical officer in 2022. He is also a face-to-face adviser for the tax charity, TaxAid.

David Wright
Technical Officer

David has a particular focus on personal taxes, including capital taxes and trusts. He trained as a Chartered Accountant whilst working in the private client team at a Big 4 firm. After a short spell in industry, he moved back into practice where he specialised in personal tax at regional and mid-tier firms before joining the ATT as a technical officer in 2023.

Autumn Murphy
Technical Officer

Autumn has a particular focus on VAT and owner managed businesses, including areas such as Research & Development, and Making Tax Digital. She trained as a Chartered Certified Accountant while working in both UK and Guernsey tax compliance roles. After returning to the UK in 2021, she moved into advisory work, supporting OMBs across a wide range of tax issues. Before joining the ATT as a Technical Officer in March 2025, she worked as a tax writer and adviser, developing practical guidance and supporting accountants with tax queries.

Chris Campbell
Technical Officer

Chris has a particular focus on Owner Managed Business taxes, Making Tax Digital, Corporation Tax, Employment Taxes and Scottish Taxes. He is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser, as well as a member of the ATT, and initially had a career in tax practice spanning 20 years. Immediately prior to joining the ATT as a Technical Officer in May 2025, Chris previously served as Head of Tax (Tax Practice and Owner Managed Business Taxes) at ICAS.

Senga Prior
Technical Officer

Senga specialises in private client tax compliance and Scottish Taxes. She also has a particular interest in tax technology. After over 25 years' experience working in practice for small and mid-tier firms she joined the ATT as a technical officer in 2025 after having been an ATT volunteer since 2013 and ATT President July 2024 to July 2025.
