The ATT invites comments on HMRC's discussion document 'Modernising the administration of the personal tax system: Tax Transparency for Individuals’ which seeks feedback and ideas for how the administration of the personal tax system could be improved to achieve better understanding and make it easier for taxpayers to deal with. The consultation together with the accompanying press notice is attached.
The document is available on the HMRC website at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/consultations/index.htm.
Although the consultation is aimed particularly at individual taxpayers, views are also sought from representative groups and tax professionals. We are keen to receive members’ views on the consultation and questions from either a personal perspective or as a tax adviser.
There are 18 consultation questions asking for views on greater transparency generally (do you want to know more about the tax you pay, and what do you want to know?), whether individual online tax accounts, pre-filled tax returns, annual tax statements would be beneficial, the use of educational material and other ways of engaging taxpayers.
Please send your comments to John Kimmer at jkimmer [at] att.org.uk by as soon as possible.
