Scottish taxpayers and S-codes – HMRC update

Further to our news item of 14 March we are now able to provide an update concerning employers and payroll operators, who were not able to see S-code information when downloading tax codes to third party software.

HMRC have identified the problem and implemented a fix. This will mean that employers have access to the right codes before the start of the tax year 2016/17.

HMRC say, “HMRC have identified and subsequently fixed the problem that was preventing the Scottish S prefix on tax codes from being shown on the P9s in third Party Software or the PAYE Desktop Viewer. The recovery action will result in the reissue of all P9s for schemes which contained any Scottish tax codes and which were accessed via the Data Provisioning Service (DPS). The re-issue of the P9s  will be complete by 12.00 on Thursday 17th March.  Employers will receive an email alert notifying them that a new P9 is available. Even if you have previously downloaded the P9 data please do so again to make sure that you have the correct codes for your employees.  We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.”

HMRC have issued an alert, available on the GOV.UK website here.
