HMRC online services: maintenance work to go ahead this weekend

The maintenance work planned to upgrade HMRC's online services, which was postponed, will go ahead this weekend.

The message from HMRC states:

I contacted you late last week to let you know that I had taken the decision to postpone our scheduled IT upgrade because of the risk of our systems being down for longer than you had been promised.

My team has been working hard to resolve the issues and I'm pleased to say it can now go ahead. A number of the changes we need to make are time critical and so we have to run the upgrade this weekend. I recognise that this does not give you much time to prepare for the system being down and I apologise for the short notice and added inconvenience.

To lessen the impact on you and your business we are reducing to an absolute minimum the time necessary to make the changes. Last weekend we had planned for the service to be closed down between 6.00 am on Friday 11th and 6.00 am on Monday 14th. Since then, and with a view to minimising disruption for you and your business we've been looking again at our plans and changed how we approach the upgrade.

We have now cut the downtime from 72 to less than 24 hours. There will be no service between 20.00 hours on Friday 18th October and 15.00 hours on Saturday 19th October. The service will then return to normal. The Service Availability page will be updated shortly.
