The Association organises an Annual Tax Conference which is held in the first half of the year in nine locations around the UK. This conference concentrates on topical issues with an emphasis on the practical issues faced on a daily basis by the Taxation Technician. Our knowledgeable speakers provide detailed notes and illustrate their lectures with practical examples gained from their experience in practice. The conference also gives you an ideal opportunity to network with like-minded professionals.
Attendance at the Annual Tax Conference will also give you 6 hours of structured/verifiable Continuing Professional Development.

Topics
Tax Update
Things change so quickly it is difficult to keep up with all the developments affecting clients. This session will provide a round-up of current issues and changes, and will discuss possible actions that may need to be taken as a result. It will include a review of the Finance Bill 2012.
Employee Remuneration Planning
Given the increasing cost of employment it may be time to review the way in which salary packages are offered. There are two schools of thought – do everything as ‘cash’ to avoid issues with reporting benefits etc., or use benefits and other payments which may be more efficient (cheaper) in terms of the cost to the employer.
This section will consider:
• the increasing cost of remunerating employees
• the ever thorny issue of how the owners extract their profits from a company
• recent changes to the taxation of benefits
• whether it is more efficient to offer cash or a benefit
• the effect of the new Real Time System and penalties levied on late payments and returns on the decision
IHT Update and Planning
Although clients tend to assume that they are immortal they need to be considering the issue of their estate, and the planning issues that arise, even for those who probably do not regard themselves as wealthy.
This part of the course will include:
• a quick refresher on the tax implications of making gifts during the lifetime or as legacies on death
• the new IHT rate for charitable giving
• the tax impact of not have a will at death and how things can be remedied post death
• planning issues for the average taxpayer including the use of trusts
As an extra benefit, Heather Brehcist and Charlotte Ali, our Professional Standards Officers, will be attending the conferences and will be available to discuss any Professional Standards or Anti Money Laundering matter with you. You can chat to them on the day duringor between sessions but if you would like to book a short meeting with them please indicate your preferred time here _____________.
