Edinburgh Branch Committee Details

Welcome to the Edinburgh Branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and Association of Taxation Technicians.

Welcome from your Edinburgh Branch Chair, Derek Francis

What our programme of events is definitely not aimed at is providing tax events just for CTAs and ATTs – leaving ICAS, ICAEW, STEP and the Law Society to provide the equivalent for their members. Rather, it is aimed at providing tax and CPD for everyone, coupled with cross-disciplinary networking opportunities. Except for one members’ social event - a sponsored walk along the John Muir way from Edinburgh to Dunbar, followed by drinks - the events themselves are open to all and aimed to provide technical content sufficient to satisfy the requirements of bodies (such as the Law Society and Bar) with more prescriptive CPD accreditation regimes. Some are geared to the needs of tax specialists, even niche specialists (e.g. “The Trust Law Reform Project”, with Lord Drummond Young, Lord Tyre, Lady Paton and Kate Forbes, Cabinet Secretary for Finance); others (e.g. "Capital Taxes Update" with Carl Bayley) will appeal to generalists – indeed matter to everyone.

If you have any suggestions for or would like to speak at an event, or if you want to be involved in the work of the Committee a direct approach is welcome - especially from ATT people: we need a representative now!

The Committee’s work is invaluable – and the satisfaction of delivering the programme and service to members which it does is its own reward.

You can contact me or Head Office at [email protected]. Any thoughts on what we can do to fulfil your training requirements would be really valued.
